RICOH GR IV HDF:Launched to create mellow, diffused expression in highlighted areas

GR IV

RICOH IMAGING COMPANY, LTD, is pleased to announce the launch of the RICOH IV HDF. Based on the RICOH GR IV high-end digital compact camera, this new model incorporates an HDF (Highlight Diffusion Filter) designed to deliver mellow, diffused expression with a single-action control.

The GR IV HDF features RICOH's proprietary HDF (Highlight Diffusion Filter), which emphasises highlights and produces soft, gentle images. This special effect filter was developed using the advanced inkjet technology that RICOH has perfected over many years. It diffuses highlights and creates a blur effect at the edges of the image, producing nostalgic images similar to those from film photography or movies.

This physical filter can be turned on and off as a default setting using the function button, allowing the user to switch between two completely different visual expressions depending on the subject or intention – clear, sharply focused images typical of the RICOH GR series, or soft, gentle images captured with the HDF filter.

In addition, the latest model in the GR series, the GR IV HDF, is equipped for the first time with a high-speed electronic shutter with a maximum shutter speed of 1/16,000 second, allowing images to be captured in extremely bright locations while still setting a larger aperture.
* This mechanism can also be installed on the RICOH GR IV using new function expansion firmware (scheduled to be released following the launch of the RICOH GR IV HDF).

As an external distinguishing feature, the colour of the shutter release button has been changed from black on the GR IV to grey silver on the GR IV HDF. In addition, as already mentioned, the Fn button (function button) has been marked with HDF and is programmed by default as the on/off function for the HDF.*
* The default setting of the Fn button can be changed to other functions.

**Note: All other functions of the RICOH GR IV HDF are identical to those of the RICOH GR IV, except for the availability of the ND (Neutra Density) filter.

The initial delivery for the GR IV HDF is scheduled for January 2026.
