What is General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR)?
The Product Safety Regulation (EU) 2023/98 is the new legislation in the EU that ensures the safety of all consumer products. Also referred to as the General Product Safety Regulation, abbreviated GPSR, it will come into effect in the European Union on 13th December 2024. GPSR replaces the Product Safety Directive 2001/95/EC and aims to ensure a high level of consumer protection and general product safety. Each product that falls under the scope of the General Product Safety Regulation must meet the general safety requirements. These requirements include, but are not limited to:
- Placing only safe products on the market.
- Providing clear contact details of the manufacturer or importer, such as name, address, and communication channels.
- Including instructions and safety information that are easily understandable in the language of the consumer.
- Indicating communication channels where consumers can file complaints related to product safety issues.
